What mattress is better than Saatva?
Established in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer luxury mattresses under 3 brand names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils give the Saatva Classic a good quantity of bounce near the top, and a plush top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s bed mattress, the Saatva Classic is delivered by movers, rather than in a box.

Note: Saatva just recently updated the Zenhaven, changing the type of latex utilized in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now features Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; read more about the differences listed below. We plan to check the new version quickly and will upgrade this guide with our impressions.
The all-foam Zenhaven consists mainly of latex, which is inherently durable. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the High-end Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Firm side feels a bit firmer), which might prove helpful if you’re not exactly sure what you prefer or if your needs change in time. This is not a conventionally soft mattress, but it offers a supple cushion, great edge assistance, and a subtle springiness. Given its inherent durability, the Zenhaven must work well for people who weigh more than 200 pounds.
For this review, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for a number of weeks in my own home. These mattresses were also assessed in our group tests conducted for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam bed mattress and the finest innerspring mattresses. As Wirecutter’s senior personnel author for sleep, I’ve interviewed ratings of experts in the mattress market and in products science; checked out dozens of bed mattress factories, display rooms, and shops; and read the fine print on requirements, warranties, and return policies. Most just recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley assessed the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her home for several weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environment-friendly” brands. But we do understand that the company utilizes thistle pulp or natural wool as a flame retardant (rather than fiberglass or chemicals) and just natural cotton (instead of synthetic blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress business, Saatva promotes such additionals as zoned layers for “ideal spine assistance”; we’re less amazed with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer support and resilient foams and coils.
