Serta Dream Retreat Mattress – Bedding, Bed Frames & Bed Bases

We find Saatva’s bed mattress to be among the most elegant-looking and attentively designed choices available from an online company. We’ve also slept on the Saatva Latex Hybrid, and we’ve looked into the parts and building of the rest of the beds in Saatva’s lineup.

What mattress is better than Saatva?

Founded in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer high-end bed mattress under three brand names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils give the Saatva Classic a good amount of bounce near the top, and a luxurious top includes softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s mattresses, the Saatva Classic is delivered by movers, rather than in a box.
Factors to consider: Serta Dream Retreat Mattress
The Saatva’s convenience system utilizes thinner layers of foam than numerous hybrid designs. These thinner layers of foam integrated with the Euro-top’s fiber fill absorb some movement, reducing how much movement is felt across the surface of the bed. Sleepers may still experience some motion transfer when their partner changes position or gets up during the night due to the bed mattress’s two layers of springs. Thanks to its softer feel, the Plush Soft variation of the Saatva takes in a little more movement than the High-end Company and Firm options.

While all of the Saatva firmness options have pressure-relieving potential, the quantity of pressure relief that a private experiences on the bed mattress will differ based partly on their weight and sleep position. People who weigh under 130 pounds will likely experience the most press relief on the Luxurious Soft variation of the bed mattress, while sleepers over 230 pounds will likely get the best balance of contouring and assistance from the Firm version.

Note: Saatva just recently updated the Zenhaven, altering the kind of latex used in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now includes Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; find out more about the distinctions below. We prepare to evaluate the new version quickly and will update this guide with our impressions.

The all-foam Zenhaven consists mostly of latex, which is inherently long lasting. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the High-end Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Firm side feels a bit firmer), which might show practical if you’re unsure what you choose or if your needs change over time. This is not a traditionally soft mattress, but it offers a flexible cushion, excellent edge assistance, and a subtle springiness. Given its natural resilience, the Zenhaven needs to work well for people who weigh more than 200 pounds.

For this review, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for numerous weeks in my own house. These bed mattress were also examined in our group tests conducted for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam bed mattress and the finest innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior personnel writer for sleep, I have actually interviewed scores of professionals in the bed mattress industry and in products science; gone to lots of bed mattress factories, stores, and display rooms; and read the small print on specs, guarantees, and return policies. Most just recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley assessed the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her house for numerous weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environmentally friendly” brands. We do know that the company utilizes thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to chemicals or fiberglass) and just organic cotton (rather of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress business, Saatva promotes such additionals as zoned layers for “optimal spine support”; we’re less impressed with those functions and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer service and durable foams and coils.
