What mattress is better than Saatva?
Established in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer high-end bed mattress under 3 brand name names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils give the Saatva Classic a great quantity of bounce near the top, and a plush top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Business’s mattresses, the Saatva Classic is delivered by movers, rather than in a box.

Note: Saatva recently upgraded the Zenhaven, altering the kind of latex used in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now features Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; learn more about the differences listed below. We plan to evaluate the new version quickly and will upgrade this guide with our impressions.
The all-foam Zenhaven consists mostly of latex, which is fundamentally resilient. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Company side feels a bit firmer), which may show handy if you’re uncertain what you prefer or if your needs alter in time. This is not a traditionally soft bed mattress, but it uses a supple cushion, excellent edge assistance, and a subtle springiness. Given its innate toughness, the Zenhaven must work well for individuals who weigh more than 200 pounds.
For this evaluation, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own house. These mattresses were also assessed in our group tests performed for Wirecutter’s guides to the best foam bed mattress and the best innerspring mattresses. As Wirecutter’s senior staff author for sleep, I’ve interviewed scores of experts in the mattress industry and in products science; visited lots of mattress factories, stores, and display rooms; and pored over the small print on specs, service warranties, and return policies. Most recently, monitoring editor Courtney Schley assessed the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her house for several weeks.

We have not yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environment-friendly” brands. We do understand that the business utilizes thistle pulp or natural wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to chemicals or fiberglass) and only natural cotton (instead of synthetic blends) in its covers. As do other online mattress business, Saatva touts such extras as zoned layers for “optimal spine support”; we’re less pleased with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer service and resilient foams and coils.
